For those who may not know who I am, my name is Nadine Jean-Pierre. I am twenty-two years old. I enjoy doing things like reading, swimming, and singing. Throughout my life, I have always been family-oriented. I enjoy spending time with my siblings and parents; telling them jokes to put a smile on everyone’s face.
My journey through life has not been easy. In my eyes, while growing up my parents weren’t always able to afford many things. That motivated me to excel in school so I can have a good-paying job, which would eliminate poverty in my family. Due to this, I promised myself to always work hard in school. Whenever I feel discouraged I will pray to God for comfort and guidance on what I should do. By the age of 12, I had a complete understanding of who God is. Therefore, I knew anything which happened in my life was not a mere coincidence. I knew that God was in control of my life, and he allowed everything to happen as they do, so His Name can be glorified in it all.
I went to Jennings Secondary school, where I graduated in 2016 as the Top-CSEC student and Valedictorian. Before graduating I wanted to go to college. I knew that my parents couldn’t afford it, but I still aspired to go. With my secondary school achievements, I was granted funds that were used to pay for my college fees. I knew it was God who made this so. While at college, I entered a writing competition where I was deemed the winner and given a scholarship to finance my second year in college.
After graduating from college with First-Class Honors, I applied to go to the University of the West Indies. Having started, I decided to work to sustain myself while going to school. It was difficult to be going to classes during the day and working at night. I would be tired and at times I felt like quitting my job. However, God always reminded me of his prophetic word over my life, “Anything you put your mind to do, you will be successful.” I always pondered on that whenever I felt frustrated. God always reminded me of His Word and that He is my Comforter, Healer, and Provider. With this reminder, I kept trusting God for everything and three years later after graduating from UWI, I was the Valedictorian for the Class of 2022. God not only made me excel, but he also provided a way for me to get a promotion from a security guard to an accounts clerk. These things are only the beginning of what God has in store for me. My life’s journey is not only for me to be proud of but for other young people who may find themselves in a similar situation as me. Think that there is no way out of hard times and always feel like giving up. I am a living testimony that God is a keeper of His promises. God will never forsake His children. I want to encourage other young persons like myself to TRUST IN GOD. God will never forsake you and once you believe in Him and follow His instructions, you will become a success. As youths, it may be hard to stand firm in our faith as many challenging times and temptations may arise but always remember, you will find peace and joy in serving the Lord. Also, keep this motto that I live by in mind, “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
